The following is an excerpt from a recent presentation I did on Agile and Coldfusion - the subject of this excerpt is Indecision.

Transcript:

Indecision holds back development – certainly if its badly managed – lets not forget that decisions have to be made – risks have to be taken

Even once the project has started – a change of heart by the business can cause problems – can introduce waste – this is because we don’t expect the business to change its mind – that’s not very realistic – we’re setting ourselves up for a rough ride if we don’t expect change

Some say “be prepared for change”, “expect change” – I go further and say “look for change” “seek it out” because its there

So unlike detailed specs that can be eliminated from the process indecision cannot – the process needs to cope with it

But this is more than just adapting to the whims of the business - indecision takes various other forms
• too many meetings
• who is responsible or who is the owner
• which option is best
• personal or political agendas
• intra and inter team competitiveness and defensiveness
• fear
• even - laziness

If we are not coping with Indecision then we’re not agile =>

Responding to Change over following a planThat is to say that while we need a plan – we should be ready to alter the plan when circumstances change
